In Viya farm, we have been growing organic vegetables and fruits since 2020, in a beautiful orchard, in the village of Chroussa, Syros. Our products are sold hand to hand, every Saturday, inside the estate among its lemon and orange trees. At the same time, we organize and host environmental actions, school walks, events and cultural events.

 

Viya farm is located in Chrousa of Syros, a green area with a special morphology, which is a pole of attraction for the inhabitants of the island who are looking for direct contact with nature. In the farm we grow organic vegetables and seasonal fruits here, maintaining the island's largest orchard with around 500 citrus trees such as lemons, oranges, tangerines, all of the old Chios variety. In addition there are around 4 acres where organic vegetables and some summer fruits are grown.

 

On Saturdays (10:00-13:00 in winter, 9:00-12:00 in summer), the estate's freshly harvested produce is available for sale. Anyone who wants can visit the wonderful microcosm of the estate to get their vegetables and fruits from the stall inside, without intermediaries, but with care and love. A necessary condition is to have brought a basket or bag, thus helping to reduce the use of plastic. This is where the residents, mainly from Syros, come to buy their vegetables and fruits, many of whom already know each other, while others make new acquaintances here, children play above and below the trees, as well as pies, sweets and other treats arrive regularly.

 

Agricultural products

As an example, we mention some winter vegetables and fruits:

Spinach, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, leeks, chard, various types of lettuce, fennel, beets, radishes, carrots, herbs, lemons, oranges and tangerines

And some summer fruits and vegetables:

Eggplants, courgettes, cherry tomatoes, peppers, okra, scallions, acorns, beans, corn, pumpkins, watermelons, melons, lemons and capers.

All organic and certified by DIO.

In May and October, periods of starting a new crop, summer and autumn-winter respectively, the estate does not have vegetables and fruits available.

 

In the estate one can find other products, while they are made from time to time"meetings", improvised or organized, mainly environmental, but also cultural in nature, but always open and cooperative. There have been wonderful musical afternoons with dancing or not, storytelling, cooking, even a play!
